Time to leave Ibiza for a great new destination, Granada in the Andalusia Region of Spain.
My idea to offer our participants a first glimpse to the "Moorish" style of southern Spain and an initiation to Marrakech.
The Brief was complete and very clear, the shortest leg of our journey so far.
The problems or I should say the "Check Ride" started when we got to our flight plan page on the G1000.
No such departure SID in the box...same for the 530.
First because of the wind our departure runway in the opposite direction that our route of flight, so a 180 change will have to take place.
Second, since the runway 06 takes us right over the the "Old Town" of Ibiza, a slight right turn need too be initiated at 1000, then at 10 nm an ARC DME..all of these not depicted on the map of the G1000, with the help of the RMI and the GPS we manage to do a pretty good rendering of the ARC.
We should have followed the lead of our canadian friends that did ask to go direct to BAVER at the completion of the turn to capture de ARC.
For whatever reason the Jetstream did dip very south this time of year and lucky us we did get the full blow in our face.
The ground speed was an anemic 235 kts from time to time
Then we got to Granada, a non radar environment airport....and guess what since we were number 4, we had to fly a non publish HOLD, followed by a full ILS with procedure turn.
Our 225 nm was one of the longest flight of the journey and intense.
